IRS scraps 71 old tax guidance documents

The IRS just threw out 71 pieces of old tax guidance

In Notice 2026-58, the IRS declared 71 revenue rulings, procedures, and notices obsolete — part of the federal deregulation push (a follow-up to 83 documents obsoleted last year).

What got scrapped: guidance going back to 1954, including 2023–2024 rulings on the $600 Form 1099-K reporting threshold for Venmo, PayPal, and eBay sales — now moot, because the One Big Beautiful Bill Act repealed that $600 threshold and restored the old $20,000 / 200-transaction rule.

What it means for you: nothing to file, nothing to fear. These were already superseded or dead letters. But it’s a reminder: if anyone quotes old IRS guidance at you, make sure it still holds. Tax rules move fast — your paperwork should too.
