Lulu was a young dolphin, and she was the fastest swimmer in the Rainbow Reef. She was light blue-grey, always smiling, and she LOVED shiny things. “Shiny, shiny, shiny!” she sang as she swirled through the pink corals.
One morning, Lulu raced her friend Toto the sea turtle to the old shipwreck. “Ready? Go!” she giggled. Whoooosh! Lulu zipped ahead like a silver arrow. Toto paddled along slowly behind her, smiling his calm old smile. “Slow and steady,” Toto said. “The shipwreck isn’t going anywhere.”
The old shipwreck was the friends’ favorite playground. Its wooden door squeaked: creeeak… and inside it was cool and dark.
But today, something in the dark was… glowing.
Lulu swam closer. Her eyes went WIDE. Behind a fallen door lay an old treasure chest — and inside it, a pile of glowing pearls! Pink ones, blue ones, golden ones. They sparkled like tiny stars.
“Ohhh,” whispered Lulu. “My shiny shells were nothing compared to THIS.”
She scooped up the pearls and swam around in happy circles. “Mine! All mine!” she sang. “I found them first!”
Just then, her four friends peeked through the shipwreck door: Toto the turtle, Zizo the octopus, Koko the crab, and Momo the whale.
“Wow!” said Koko, his claws going click-click-click with excitement. “Pearls!” said Zizo, twirling all eight of his wiggly arms.
Lulu hugged the chest tight. “No! I found them! They’re all MINE.”
The friends were quiet. Zizo looked a little sad. Koko’s claws stopped clicking. Even Momo’s deep voice went quiet.
Lulu’s smile faded. Her chest felt heavy — and not just from the pearls.
She looked at the pearls. She looked at her friends. And slowly, she did something she had never done before.
She picked out the biggest pink pearl and gave it to Toto. “For you, Toto,” she said. “Because you’re wise, and you waited for me.”
Then a glowing blue one for Zizo. “For you, Zizo, because you’re clever.”
Then a sparkling golden one for Koko. “For you, Koko, because you make everyone laugh.”
And for Momo, the biggest pearl of all. “For you, Momo, because you’re the kindest giant in the sea.”
The shipwreck went quiet for a moment. Then —
Toto smiled his biggest smile. Zizo did a twirly happy dance. Koko’s claws went click-click-click-CLICK! And Momo laughed his deep, rumbly laugh: “HO-HO-HO!”
And Lulu felt something warm bubbling up inside her. It was brighter than the pearls. It was her OWN happiness — growing and growing!
“You know what?” Lulu said, grinning. “Giving feels BETTER than keeping!”
From that day on, the friends called the shipwreck the Treasure Shipwreck. And whenever anyone found something special in the reef, Lulu would say, “Let’s share it!” Because she had learned: a pearl is prettiest when it makes a friend smile.
The lesson: Generosity means sharing with others — giving away happiness makes it grow bigger, not smaller.
Talk about it: What is something you could share with a friend today?
